The Prevention Needs Assessment survey was conducted during the 2018-2019 school year. All 8th, 10th and 12th grade students at Lancaster/Depew Schools took this federally approved survey to measure substance use and other core measures within our community.
The survey was designed to assess students’ involvement in a specific set of problem behaviors, as well as their exposure to a set of scientifically validated risk and protective factors. The risk and protective factors have been shown to influence the likelihood of
academic success, school dropout, substance abuse, violence, and delinquency among youth.
In 2021-2022 we switched to the CLYDE Survey which is also a Federally approved survey and matches the same core measures as the Prevention Needs Assessment so we can create the needed Trend Data Reports and continue to use this as our baseline for any programs, processes, and prevention strategies to be effective in our field.
We conduct the CLYDE Survey every two years for all 8th-12th grade students in Lancaster and Depew NY, also known as our "quantitative data". In the off years we conduct Focus Groups with our youth ages 8th-12th grade for Lancaster/Depew schools and Key Informant Interviews with selected individuals ranging from the school social workers to law enforcement to help us "qualify" the information we get from the surveys. These reports dive deeper in the data to help strategize effective programing and disseminate accurate education for our schools, parents, and youth.
